This Friday for the Brain Drain party, we have guest DJ, Cobra Krames. Krames, who now lives in NYC, started in Richmond throwing dance parties around the city and significantly contributed to the dance and electronic scene here. Since moving, he has created quite a name for himself, constantly spinning parties throughout the US and internationally. Starting out producing baltimore club, Krames has now expanded to a number of dance genres, creating dubstep tracks and recently releasing a EP of disco edits.
Krames sent over an exclusive new track just for the Audio Ammo blog. It’s an original dubstep tune sampling “Tried by 12” from The East Flatbush Project and featuring the vocals of Cerebral Vortex.
Started writing this a while ago and never posted. A little late but….
Over VCU’s fall break I headed up to New York City with a few friends. We arrived in Brooklyn early Thursday morning after driving all night. After a couple hours of sleep, I woke up and headed into the city. I first visited the record label where I have worked the last two summers, Downtown Records, in Soho. I talked to friends around the office and heard the new Kid Sister album, titled Ultraviolet, which comes out next week. It’s got some cool songs and definitely the potential for some great remixes. Here’s the first single off the album, Right Hand Hi, along with two remixes from Caspa and Kill The Noise:
Thursday night, we headed to a Pepsi party at an unnamed warehouse in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn. The event featured DJ sets by Diplo and DJ Drama. We arrived to hear most of Drama’s standard top 40 set. Diplo was up after and killed it with a mix club and electronic music along with his own Major Lazer tracks. My friend Grant and I also met Skerrit Bwoy, Major Lazer’s infamous daggering hype man, who we had already been talking to via Twitter. If you haven’t heard of daggering or Skerrit Bwoy, get on YouTube now. Check out this amazing remix of Major Lazer’s Pon De Floor that Diplo dropped at the party, can’t wait for it to come out:
Friday night we headed over to Webster Hall for Girls & Boys, a weekly electronic music party. Chromeo were the guest DJs that night. Their set wasn’t particularly thrilling but they played some cool tracks and there was a good crowd. One song that stuck out was A-Trak’s new remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll, have a listen:
Our final night, Grant and I were debating what we should do. After receiving a tweet from Skerrit Bwoy inviting us to his dancehall party and downing a few drinks for confidence we decided to go. Arriving at Club Colours we received some weird looks as we were the only white, non-islanders in the place, the bouncer at the door even thought we were confused about the club. With the help of Four Loco, our friend Katy, and Skerrit Bwoy giving us shout outs, we soon became accepted at the party. He even saved Grant after he was nearly kicked out for attempting to jump off a speaker with daggering intentions. The music was an awesome, a lot of mainstream dance hall, and we all had a great time. Skerrit Bwoy even gave us a Twitter shout out at the end of the night:
Thanks to everyone who came out to Fan Plan Halloween. This Halloween party was insane! Once again Noah Larmz showed up with some dope product. They had Noah Larmz candy bars with free golden drink tickets! Rva’s own Bobby La Beat aka Magnum P.I. “Shot em’ up” represented and killed his set as usual.
Our local boy, VIKING, making big moves and even bigger tunes with his newest and smoothest remix of Amanda Blank’s “Shame On Me.” Presented by RCRDLBL.com, our homie is moving fast in the game only leaving trails of club killing pop anthems. If you missed him at the last BRAIN DRAIN, then download this song, turn off all the lights, and dance naked around your room.
Just got back from the Loose Lips party in Virginia Beach and they had the venue overflowing. This party might be hazardous if you all don’t find another spot!
In collaboration with Restless Bodies and LeDMX putting on a light show, DJs Ordinary Boy, LRDMRCY, and Ronnie have built quite an impressive event. Read more about them here. With lazers and video shows moving with the latest house and electronic tunes, there wasn’t a dull moment all night. If you’re in the area, make it to the next one. And if you don’t know, find out. On a final note, if you missed tonight then you have a chance to redeem yourself at FANTASTIC PLANET, going down an extra hour ‘til 3am on Halloween night! Audio Ammo’s own DJ Wizard/Doddie Fresh taking you to the future.
Lately, the music I’ve been playing in my DJ sets have been mostly house, kuduro, heavy bass & dubstep. With the internet speeding up the process, music has been seemingly coming in ‘trends’ and since baltimore club, I haven’t really enjoyed club music as much as I do now. With djs/producers like Jack Beats, Foamo, AC Slater, Drop the Lime dropping heavy bass anthems one after the other, this is the most excited I’ve been about finding music to play in awhile. Here are a some tracks I currently have in my set rotation and if you don’t have a sub to listen to this shit go get one!
Loving these DJ Manaia electro/kuduro remixes blasting heavy tribal drums, deep bass and maniacal electro leads.
This duo is taking dubstep to another level with sounds I can’t even understand. The transformer sounds are a given but what about all the other sounds that seem to come from 10 universes over?
